Inspiring the future of scientific discovery

Berkeley 100 is an initiative to help solve the most important challenges in science, led by a global team of world-class scientists

What is the Berkeley 100?

The Berkeley 100 is an ambitious initiative dedicated to tackling some of the most pressing and consequential challenges in science, and advance the cause of evidence based reasoning.

Spanning 100 distinct problems across 10 scientific disciplines, the program is structured around prize-driven innovation to inspire bold, high-impact solutions.

The initiative is led by a global team of distinguished scientists, and designed to foster international collaboration.

The ten scientific disciplines include:

Astronomy, Astrophysics & Cosmology

Biology & Biochemistry

Chemistry & Chemical Engineering

Computation & AI

Earth, Space & Environmental Sciences

Material Sciences, Technology & Engineering

Mathematics & Applied Mathematics

Medicine & Health Sciences

Neuroscience & Brain Science

Physics & Applied Physics

Scientific Leadership

The Berkeley 100 is organized across ten scientific disciplines, each led by a committee of experts who define the key challenges within their field.

These areas range from mathematics, AI, and physics to neuroscience, planetary exploration, medicine, and advanced materials.

Each committee sets the agenda for breakthrough discovery by identifying high-impact problems and guiding rigorous evaluation.
